Scattering by a Nihility Sphere
نویسنده
چکیده
The concept of nihility as an electromagnetic medium has emerged [1] from the rather extraordinary developments on negatively refracting materials during this decade [2, 3]. Whereas the relative permittivity and relative permeability of vacuum are ǫr = μr = 1, and those of anti– vacuum are ǫr = μr = −1, those of nihility are ǫr = μr = 0. The so–called perfect lens of Pendry [4] is made of anti–vacuum [5], and any perfect lens in the present context is required to simulate nihility [5, 6].

Scattering by a Nihility Cylinder
The emergence of nihility as an electromagnetic medium [1] can be attributed to the rather extraordinary developments on negatively refracting materials during this decade [2, 3]. Much of the impetus for this development has been provided by the prospect of the so–called perfect lens [4]. Any perfect lens in the present context is required to simulate nihility [5, 6]. The relative permittivity ...
متن کاملCloaking a Perfectly Conducting Sphere with Rotationally Uniaxial Nihility Media in Monostatic Radar System
In this paper, the backscattering properties of a perfect electric conducting sphere coated with layered anisotropic media whose constitutive parameters are close to nihility are investigated. We show that the backscattering is more sensitive to the radial constitutive parameters than to the tangential ones. Compared with isotropic case, the anisotropic media with small axial parameters have th...
متن کاملEffect of Dissipative and Dispersive DNG Material Coating on the Scattering Behavior of Parallel Nihility Circular Cylinders
Electromagnetic scattering from coated nihility circular cylinders, illuminated by E-polarized plane wave, is investigated using an iterative procedure. Cylinders are infinite in length. The boundary conditions are applied on the surface of each cylinder in an iterative procedure in order to solve for the field expansion coefficients. The effect of different types of the coating layers includin...
متن کاملCharacteristics of Guided Modes in Planar Chiral Nihility Meta-material Waveguides
The characteristics of guided modes in the planar waveguides which the core or cladding consists of chiral nihility meta-materials are studied theoretically. The dispersion curves, electromagnetic fields, energy flow distribution and the power of several low-order guided modes in the chiral nihility waveguides are presented. Some novel features such as anomalous dispersion curves, the power flo...
متن کاملOn Perfect Lenses and Nihility
The canonical problem of a perfect lens with linear bianisotropic materials is formulated. Its solution is shown to be directly connected with the concept of nihility, the electromagnetic nilpotent. Perfect lenses as well as nihility remain unrealizable.
